Detailed Explanation & Answer
Assume the marked price (MP) is 100 for easy calculation.

Apply the successive discounts:

First discount of 15%: Price after discount = 100 - (15% of 100) = 100 - 15 = 85.
Second discount of 20%: Price after discount = 85 - (20% of 85) = 85 - 17 = 68.
Third discount of 40%: Price after discount = 68 - (40% of 68) = 68 - 27.2 = 40.8.

Price after all discounts is 40.8.
Single discount = (Marked Price - Final Price) / Marked Price × 100
Single discount = (100 - 40.8) / 100 × 100 = 59.2%.
