    Astik vs. Nastik

In Indian philosophy, the terms "astika" and "nastika" are used to categorize different schools of thought based on the nature of the universe and the existence of a higher power or ultimate reality.

Astika: The term "astika" (literally "one who believes") refers to schools of thought that accept the authority of the Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India. Astika philosophies include schools such as Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Samkhya, Yoga, Mimamsa, and Vedanta. These schools generally accept the existence of a higher reality or ultimate principle (Brahman) and the idea of the soul (Atman). They also believe in the concept of karma and reincarnation.

Nastika: The term "nastika" (literally "one who does not believe") refers to schools of thought that do NOT accept the authority of the Vedas or reject certain key concepts of orthodox Hinduism. The main nastika schools are Buddhism, Jainism and Charwak.
